PMAG Newsletter
Spring 2004

Greetings PMI & PMF Alumni!

2004 is proving to be a dynamic year for the PMF program already.

OPM has regulations governing the program under review, and they include
many significant changes to the nature of the program. We continue to await
further details on the Senior PMF program announced last year – we have
communicated your interest, excitement and questions about this program to
OPM. They are working to articulate their vision for the program and the
likely inclusion of former PMI/F alums in it. If you have questions or
concerns regarding the senior PMF program, we invite you to contact us and
we’ll relay your questions and concerns directly to Mike Beckmann, the
director of the Presidential Management Fellows Program. You may also
contact Dr. Beckmann directly at Michael.Beckmann at opm.gov

PMAG has been active, and as summer approaches, we’ve been even busier.

We were invited to participate in the PMF job fair:

Presidential Management Fellowship Celebration – As most of you probably
know, all PMI/PMF Alumni were invited to a welcoming ceremony and reception
for the Class of 2002 and 2003 Presidential Management Fellows, as well as
the incoming Class of 2004 Finalists. Tod Companion, Janine Tobias and David
Radcliffe attended, representing PMAG. The Deputy Director of OPM spoke and
Max Stier of the Partnership for Public Service gave the keynote address.

Hosting the International Interest Night – this traditional night of Q&A
with current and former PMI/Fs was again be hosted by PMAG at the Johns
Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies. More than 100
attended, mostly 2004 PMF Finalists, and many stopped by the table to thank
us.

PMAG hosted a table at the job fair with alumni on hand to answer questions,
guide and comfort the frazzled interns. We all remember how crazy that job
fair can be. Our Secretary, David Radcliffe led our participation at the Job
Fair – Hats off to David for excellent work in a dynamic environment! As
well, PMAG is grateful to the following alumni who volunteered to man our
table:
- Rebecca Martino
- Geeta Raj
- David Glines
- Cory Dunne
- Marsha Keanor
- Kristen Lantz
- Amy Holman
- Jill Ferguson
- Ross Canton

We’ve been in close contact with OPM regarding the changes coming to the
program.

In February, Tod Companion and Janine Tobias were invited by OPM
Administrator Kay James to meet with her and her senior staff regarding the
changes in the PMF program. This was a welcome surprise to the Board. The
initial meeting with the staff was followed by a long conversation with
Director James.

We’ve been working with the PMF office to staff the PMF Orientations this
fall and winter, and three board members have traveled to Shepherdstown to
participate in forums with new Fellows. These proved very interesting.

We are waiting to hear from OPM regarding the final version of the new
regulations governing the PMF and Senior PMF program. We are eager to see
the new regs and hope they treat current Fellows fairly.

·	PMAG Events. We know it’s been more than a year since our kick-off event,
and we’ve determined that we can no longer wait to have a get together
sponsored by PMAG for current and former PMI/Fs in the DC Area. Expect to
hear from us regarding this in the next month.

·	PMAG.ORG continues to grow – we’ve added information for incoming fellows,
autosubscribe features for our list serve, as well as a host of links. We
plan to add an interactive database function to allow you to configure your
profile, and network with other alums. Rebecca Martino of GSA is our web
goddess and we all owe her a great deal of thanks!

·	Networking and Outreach Opportunities – We tried as best we could to make
sure all alumni knew they were invited to participate in this year’s PMF Job
Fair and related activities. As well, we distributed information to you
regarding OPM recruiting activities in New York City.

Please do not hesistate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns!

On behalf of the Board of Directors,

Tod Companion
